Food for Thought

You will need to give some thought to the foods that you eat. Some foods can actually help you in the quitting process while other foods can trip you up. We've divided them into three basic groups.

GO!

Fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, grains and dairy are green light foods. Try to eat most of your food from these food groups.

CAUTION!

Coffee, tea, and soft drinks are strongly associated with the urge to smoke. Spicy foods can also increase the urge to smoke. Be cautious as you determine how strong your association is.

STOP!

Alcohol tends to lower your defenses. It may relax you and allow you to think you "deserve" a cigarette, be talked into "just one", or even allow you to be convinced that quitting is just too hard. Avoid alcohol in the early stages of quitting.
